Most Last Times Do Not Know They Are Last.
Life rarely announces an ending while it is happening; most final moments acquire their meaning only after we can no longer return to them.
The final cup of coffee between two people looks exactly like the hundred before it.
There is no change in the light. Nobody hears a warning bell. One person may complain about the coffee, the other may check the time, and both leave assuming the conversation has merely paused until next time. Only later does the ordinary scene acquire a border around it. Memory changes the lighting, lowers its voice and calls it the last one.
